Silva 103RE Racing compass
The Silva 103RE (Racing Elite) is a dual-scale compass that allows sailors to read the actual course on both starboard and port necks as well as from the helmsman's normal position.
The double scale is divided into a green (starboard) and a red (port) scale where the numbers correspond to port and starboard necks as the scales are offset by +/- 40 ° from the top scale. That way you only need to remember one number.
This is a great advantage on triangular course sailing, where the sailor has to watch for wind shifts, rather than the actual course.
The top scale also makes it possible to take a course reading on the helmsman or check the position of the starting line.
